The AI-inspired works of Nouf Aljowaysir, Chris Zhongtian Yuan, and Juan Covelli are introduced on Somerset House’s on-line curated space generally identified as Channel. Brooklyn-based Aljowaysir has made a film, Ana Min Wein (Where Am I From?), which tracks her immigration path to the US, charting her family’s migration history across Saudi Arabia and Iraq. The emergence of AI-image mills, corresponding to DALL-E 2, Discord, Midjourney, and others, has stirred an argument over whether art generated by artificial intelligence must be thought of actual art — and whether it could put artists and creators out of work.
